In one paragraph. Pocket French is a French-learning app for iPhone. Part of it is free forever; the rest is unlocked by an optional purchase called Pro, sold at $1.99 per month, $11.99 per year, or $29.99 once. There is no free trial. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel, and you cancel through Apple, not through us.

1. Agreement
These Terms of Use form the agreement between you and the developer of Pocket French (“we”, “us”) covering your use of the Pocket French app and this website. By downloading or using the app you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.
2. Licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Pocket French on Apple devices you own or control, in line with the App Store Terms of Service. You may not redistribute the app, sell access to it, reverse-engineer it except where that right cannot lawfully be excluded, or extract the learning content in bulk for republication.
3. The free tier
Pocket French can be used without paying. The free tier gives access to a defined portion of each library — currently 100 of the curated entries, 80 vocabulary words, 40 phrases and 5 verbs in full — plus search across the whole catalogue, the Home and Lock Screen widget, and a daily entry that is unlocked whatever it happens to be. These amounts are product decisions and may change in future versions; they will not shrink for content you have already purchased.
4. Pro, billing and renewal
Pro unlocks the entire library, the speaking and spaced-review practice modes, on-device translation, and cross-device sync of saved items. It is sold as an in-app purchase in three forms:

- No free trial is offered on any plan.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the same price unless auto-renew is switched off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- Prices are shown in US dollars. Apple converts and charges in your local currency, and local taxes may apply.
- “Lifetime” means a one-time purchase that does not renew and remains valid for as long as Pocket French is published and functioning on the App Store. It is not a promise of perpetual service in the event the app is permanently withdrawn.
- Any unused portion of a free period, where one is ever offered, is forfeited when a subscription is purchased.
5. Cancelling
Manage or cancel a subscription in Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions on your device, or from the Subscription section of the app's Profile screen, which links to the same place. Cancelling stops the next renewal; access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
6. Refunds
Purchases are made through Apple, so refunds are handled by Apple under their policy. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We are not able to issue refunds directly. If something is not working, write to us first — a fix is usually faster.
7. Price and plan changes
We may change prices for new purchases. An existing subscription's price does not change without notice; where a change would affect a renewal, Apple notifies you and, where required, asks you to consent before the next charge. If you do not agree, cancel before the renewal date.
8. Accounts
An anonymous account is created automatically so the app can work. Signing in with Apple or Google is optional and exists to carry your purchase and saved items between devices. You are responsible for activity under an account you control. You can delete your account at any time from the Profile screen; doing so removes your synced learning data but does not cancel or refund a subscription.
9. Acceptable use
Do not use the app to break the law, attempt to defeat the purchase or entitlement checks, disrupt the service or the servers behind it, or scrape the catalogue. We may suspend access where we reasonably believe this clause has been breached.
10. Content and accuracy
Pocket French is a learning aid, not a certified translation or examination service. We work hard on accuracy, and we are open about where it is still imperfect: within the 1,252-item curated collection, a portion of the English meanings originated from machine translation and remain in editorial review. Do not rely on the app for legal, medical, safety-critical or professional translation. Corrections are welcome and get acted on.
11. Intellectual property
The app, its design, its code and its compiled learning content are ours or our licensors' and are protected by copyright. The French language is nobody's property; the particular selection, wording, explanations and arrangement in this app are.
12. Availability
The core learning library is bundled in the app and works offline. Purchases, restoring purchases and cross-device sync require a connection and depend on Apple's and our providers' systems. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of those parts.
13. Disclaimer and liability
The app is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent the law permits. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of or relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid for it in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.
14. Apple
These terms are between you and us, not with Apple, and Apple is not responsible for the app or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple may refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple is not responsible for addressing claims relating to the app, including product liability, legal compliance, or consumer protection claims. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you keep the benefit of any mandatory consumer protections of your home country, and you may bring proceedings there.
