I paid, but the app still says Pro is locked

Open Profile → Restore purchases. That asks Apple directly what your Apple Account owns and re-applies it. It is also the right button after reinstalling, after getting a new iPhone, or if you bought on another device.

If restoring finds nothing, check that the device is signed in to the same Apple Account you bought with — a purchase belongs to the Apple Account, not to the phone or to a Pocket French sign-in.

Where do I cancel?

Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions → Pocket French. The app's Profile screen has a “Manage subscription” link that goes to the same place. Cancelling stops the next renewal and you keep Pro until the period you have already paid for ends. Deleting the app does not cancel anything.

Refunds

Apple handles all refunds: reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue them from our side. If the reason is that something is broken, tell us too — we would rather fix it.

Can I restore my purchase on another iPhone?

Purchases are tied to your Apple Account, so any device signed in to it can restore them. Sign in to Pocket French with Apple or Google as well if you want your saved items and learning progress to follow you through Pro sync.

The widget

Touch and hold the Home Screen, tap Edit → Add Widget, search for Pocket French, and add French Discovery. Small and medium sizes are available for the Home Screen, and a rectangular size for the Lock Screen.

The widget changes every six hours on a schedule the app builds in advance, so it keeps working offline. If it looks stuck, open the app once to let it refresh the schedule. Tapping the widget opens that exact entry — and whatever it is showing is readable even on the free tier.

Speech and audio

Speaking practice needs microphone and speech-recognition permission. The app only asks the first time you start a speaking activity. If you declined and want to change your mind: Settings → Pocket French and enable Microphone and Speech Recognition.

Recognition quality varies by device, accent and background noise. It is meant as a mirror to practise against, not a score — a word it misses is not necessarily a word you said wrong.

If pronunciation playback is silent, check the ring/silent switch and the media volume, and confirm a French voice is installed under Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices.

Translation

Translation runs entirely on your device using Apple's Translation framework. It needs a recent iOS version and the French and English language packs; iOS downloads those the first time you use it. The tab is hidden automatically on devices where the system does not offer it.

Sync and accounts

You can learn without signing in. With Pro and optional Apple or Google sign-in, saved items, reviews, lesson progress and paused practice can sync between devices. Keep both devices on the same current app version. The progress format introduced in 1.7.0 does not continuously share edits with older versions.

Signing out keeps account learning data separate from guest learning. Delete Account removes the account and its synced data permanently, and cannot be undone. It does not cancel a subscription; do that through Apple.

Something in the content is wrong

Please tell us — this is the most useful mail we get. Include the French entry and what you would expect instead. We are especially interested in the curated collection, where some English meanings came from machine translation and are still being reviewed by hand.

Reporting a bug

Email us with:

• what you did, what happened, and what you expected;
• your iPhone model and iOS version;
• the version line at the bottom of Profile — tap it five times to reveal the build identifier, then tap once more to copy it.

Privacy and your data

What is collected, what never is, and how to get it deleted are all in the privacy policy. To request a copy of the data held against your account, or to have analytics excluded for your installation, just ask.
