Introduction

Pocket French ("the App") is a free French language learning app. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

Information We Collect

Account Information

• Anonymous accounts: When you first open the App, an anonymous account is created automatically. No personal information is required.
• Optional sign-in: If you choose to sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email address as provided by those services. This is entirely optional.

Usage Data

We collect basic usage analytics to improve the App, including:

• Session starts and sign-in events
• Searches performed within the App
• Tense and category selections
• Items viewed and favorites added or removed

This data is associated with your anonymous or signed-in account ID and does not include personally identifiable information for anonymous users.

Device Information

We collect limited device context once per session (Locale, Region, Timezone, Platform, and App Version) to help us understand our user base.

Favorites

Your favorited items are stored locally. If you sign in, favorites are synced to our server (hosted on Supabase) to allow cross-device access.

How We Use Your Information

• Provide and maintain the App
• Sync your favorites across devices (if signed in)
• Understand how the App is used and improve it
• Fix bugs and technical issues

Data Storage and Security

• All data is stored on Supabase (cloud infrastructure hosted in the US).
• Authentication tokens are stored securely on your device using the platform's secure storage.
• Row-level security policies ensure users can only access their own data.
• All communication between the App and our servers uses HTTPS encryption.

Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services:

• Supabase (authentication, database, and data sync) — Privacy Policy
• Apple Sign-In (optional authentication) — Apple Privacy Policy
• Google Sign-In (optional authentication) — Google Privacy Policy
• Expo (app infrastructure) — Expo Privacy Policy

Data Retention

• Anonymous account data is retained indefinitely but contains no personal information.
• Signed-in account data is retained as long as your account exists.
• You can delete your favorites at any time by removing them in the App.

Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The App can be used anonymously without providing any personal information.

Your Choices

• Use anonymously: You can use the full App without ever signing in.
• Sign in optionally: Only sign in if you want cross-device favorite sync.
• Delete favorites: Remove any favorited items at any time within the App.

Data Deletion Requests

If you created an account and wish to delete it and all associated data:

• In-App: Go to the Profile tab and tap Delete Account. This will immediately remove your data.
• Web Request: Email us at pocketfrenchapp@gmail.com with the subject "Account Deletion Request".

Note: Anonymous accounts do not contain personal data and cannot be linked to an identity for deletion requests.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
